Funki Munki Concept

Back in December 2019, I was tasked with creating a visual concept for a new urban shop/brand aimed towards children and young teens.

The one specific requirement was that the brand had to relate to its roots, without becoming offensive/causing concern and unease for the parents/guardians of the target audience.

After researching a variety of different areas (such as street art and children/teen clothing brands etc.) I came up with this design.

I feel that the loud colours and iconic bold style are not only instantly recognisable but also on trend with the target audience. The logo works well across both print and web design making the branding easy to translate across all media.

The idea behind the monkey design was not only as most teenagers spend a lot of time on social media (and emojis are very popular with the age group) but also because it represents playfulness, cheeky personality and youth. The angular strokes are a nod to the street art routes as it’s generally created using sharp chunky outlines.
